Bio Data
What is a Bio Data?
A Bio Data is largely identical to a resume. It is a document containing
the history of one's professional and academic career, skills and goal
sets. However the difference is not purely a question of semantics. Unlike
a resume, a conventional bio data is rarely personalized from application
to application. In fact, it is a fact sheet which may be used for various
purposes, one of them being application for a job. Also, various organizations
require a bio data from their members, which they preserve and update
at regular intervals. Schools and universities, clubs and communities
and registered societies all tend to maintain a bio data of their members.
A bio data may often require the inclusion of a passport photograph for
the purpose of identification.
Commonly,
a bio data is handed in instead of a resume in the lower categories of
employment where it is basic working skill sets that need to brought out,
rather than multi faceted professional skills and experience.
For eg: A computer operator may find a bio data format simple, effective
and easy to use. However, a person applying for a CEO job may prefer to
use a fleshed out and conversant resume.
Let's not
make the mistake of thinking that a bio data is a poor cousin of a resume.
However, they are certainly not twins. A bio data is a profile, which
may or may not be for the purpose of application to a position. A resume
almost always is!
